We have had a small conversation with Riccardo, aka Pure basic, a Southern Italian artist based in Hamburg. He runs the label Biometric-Audio in 2021 which is dedicated to a friend who died in a car accident. 12th May is the first vinyl release and is an EP made out of love. Any track has its own story and own music geometry.

A1. Flowers

Flowers has been produced during one of the darkest time of the artist, it took 1 year to finish the track because of an accident and a detachment from the music. In the beginning it was named Toxic Flowers and exists 3 version of it. Minimalistic traits and a pounding kick drum are the main essence of the track. It was used a Roland TR-909 to make it , and, according to Riccardo, secrets of a fool.

A2. Dream Factory

Dream Factory is an unreleased track of an EP called “In the people Eyes”. This one has been produced to tell out of love and positivity beside negativity. The dark style that wrap the track is an intense rolling pounder. This has been produced right before sending the EP to the pressing plant. A real run as the track itself.

B1. Trust

“Trust is the track with more mistakes I have produced, I wanted to express my vulnerability, so I decided to publish the “worst” version of it” this is a statement about the track that Riccardo made. Wicked patterns and obscure design interpretate the third track named Trust, a sampled woman voice wraps the arrangement, occasionally psychedelic. This was inspired by his inner self and the trust people never have in themselves. It is an omen to take back the trust in himself.

B2. Ali e Nino

Ali e Nino is directly inspired from a movie that inspire the side’s A graphic. Those are two statues placed in Georgia that represent the story of two unfortunate lovers which every night “kiss” each other. In this one there is still his minimalistic sci-fi vision of the techno with a more present Detroitish influence. Two versions of it exist, an ambient one and the Techno one that we can listen to.

B3. Diana

Diana, the closing track, is probably the best one of the EP. This was inspired by his Femme Fatale, this Georgian woman that moved forward his heart and his music like a muse. Produced with a DX-7 this track has been produced in Sorrento on the same balcony were Caruso was written. In the beginning this track was not going to be published: his label collaborators thought the track was not produced by him because of a different sound design and arrangement. The track is definitively an excursion to the techno meander, a labyrinth of synths well-executed. In this track he put all of his effort and sufference. The track was developed in three hours and arranged in one day.

12th May is a proper techno EP. Versatile, romantic, groovy and dreamy, this full on 4/4 tracker is what any dance floor will need.

We thank Riccardo for sharing this beautiful and profound story with us.
