Anonymity in art is a concept as noble as it is difficult to maintain. The artist dissolves, leaving space for the music, but the need to engage with social media and live performances complicates their ability to stay in the shadows. Darkness Darkness is the third chapter of the A Visiting Link series, an enigmatic Dutch label that has so far given birth to whispered gems like Bees and the A Visiting Link project itself, where futuristic ambient techno finds its place within fresh and innovative and hypnotic IDM concepts.
The Animation LP is no exception, fully satisfying the expectations of an equally intense work. It is a timeless ambient techno, once again on IDM coordinates, but explored in the more dreamlike and hallucinatory forms of ambient dub, where the perception of a new sensory world emerges through fusion with technology itself. Eight visionary soundscapes, soaked in abstract retro-futurism, reinvent the legacy of the seminal Nuron / Fugue project in a form that subtly evokes the productions of PLO Man and Acting Press, as well as the more recent Mammo.
It matters little who is behind this project, as the label seems to do everything to maintain a low profile, out of the spotlight. The album is available only on Discogs and a few other purchasing sites, with no presence on Bandcamp or social media. The aesthetic experience that emerges, both hallucinatory and ethereal, is one of the most vibrant productions of recent times: a digitized, bluish flame, filled with intelligent and meditative sonic tensions, with the enigmatic aura surrounding it further feeding the sense of anticipation. A hidden gem, glowing with brilliance.
