The 19th installment of our mix series features Marco Maldarella, an artist whose sonic explorations consistently navigate the space between psychedelic dance music, IDM-inflected glitch, and tribal fusion. Through pivotal releases on Omen Wapta and his collaborative project MARMO (shared with Christian Duka), Marco Maldarella has established a dense, layered aesthetic, fueled by a meticulous focus on sonic grain and signal depth.
Alongside his discographic output, Marco Maldarella has emerged in recent years as a prolific graphic designer, shaping the visual identity of numerous labels and collectives.
This multidisciplinary vision is deeply embedded in the set recorded for Palpebræ, a narrative born from the need to process the sensory input of a recent tour across Asia. The mix features both released and unreleased stuff from Ilay Runi, Periskop, Comm, Raar, Theathre, DYL, and Oophoi, alongside collaborations with Abo Abo and MARMO.ˮ
Have a good listening!
☉ About Marco Maldarella:
Marco Maldarella navigates the intersection of psychedelic dance music and tribal fusion, crafting dense architectures where IDM-inflected glitch effects meet organic textures and drone-laden atmospheres. His output is anchored by the Clinamen EP and his debut full-length Silent Logic on Omen Wapta.
Beyond his solo practice, Marco Maldarella explores the dialogue between atmospheric structures and dancefloor dynamics through MARMO, a collaborative project with Christian Duka. A key figure within the Sinestesie collective, he further maintains a consistent presence in the electronic landscape through his monthly residency at Radio Raheem Milano.
☉ About the mix:
“Returning from a month of gigs across Asian cities, with the density and velocity of those environments still seeping through, I found myself building this mix around my own new productions, reaching outward toward contemporary artists and others from the early 2000s. It was in those pauses, between one city and the next, that I rediscovered a world of deep space ambient and electro-acoustic sound from artists like Alio Die and Oophoi, whose work pulled me toward a different kind of listening—one that asks for stillness and rewards attention over stimulation.
Each track carries within its micro-details, its textures, and its smallest sonic gestures a kind of rhythmic sigil; it is a presence not always audible in the pattern itself but deeply felt in the grain, the pressure, and the way a sound decays. As they blend, their convergence shifts the perception of time itself, making the music feel faster or slower than it actually is—an illusion the body accepts before the mind begins to question it. The mix features both released and unreleased material, alongside collaborations with Abo Abo, MARMO, Ilay Runi, Sgnl_Fltr, Comm, Raar, Theathre, DYL, and Oophoi.”
