Active since last September within the spaces of Circolo Amelia in Milan, altéra operates as a platform in continuous evolution, deliberately positioned within a sonic ‘grey-zone’. The project avoids fixed genre references, instead tracing its own trajectory across deep techno, IDM and more exploratory corners of electronic music, while maintaining a layered, hypnotic and constantly shifting approach.
Developed through a shared curatorial direction with the multidisciplinary collective Endless Interferenza, altéra reflects a distinctly Central European sensibility, in step with niche scenes in contemporary electronic music. Its programme has already hosted key figures in experimental sound such as Al Wootton, Loek Frey, Forest On Stasys, Timnah, Shoal, Pianeti Sintetici and Harald Uunk (just to name a few), all framed within a coherent and recognisable curatorial vision. The project’s identity is shaped by its founders and residents Philip Kylberg, Alessandro Baroncini, SEIYA, Gabsphere and Luca Scarpa, who form its core team.
altéra’s research extends beyond the conventions of club culture, activating a rigorous dialogue between sound, space and visual elements. Central to this vision is the reactivation of the Circolo Amelia caveau, entrusted to invited artists to realise temporary site-specific installations. The result is a hybrid setting shaped by overlapping practices involving performance, installation and audiovisual work, where the visual and sonic dimensions coexist and continuously inform one another.
The next gathering will feature a live performance by Dino Sabatini, a key figure in Italian hypnotic techno. He will be joined by De Rio affiliate Abo Abo, alongside altéra’s residents Luca Scarpa and Gabsphere (one half of First Order Approximation duo). Scheduled for Saturday, April 18, the event further consolidates Circolo Amelia as a focal point for this ongoing curatorial trajectory.
